Polar Plastics poly film, also known as poly sheeting or polyethylene sheeting, is used as a vapor barrier in residential construction. Poly film can be used in walls and floors to prevent condensation and energy loss.

For cold climates in the US, poly film should be installed on the warm-in-winter side of the insulation.

During winter, water vapor moves from the heated interior toward the cold exterior. If the water vapor is not blocked by a vapor retarder, like poly film, condensation can occur when the water vapor contacts cold surfaces. Prolonged condensation can cause wood root and growth of mold and mildew.
